Hello everybody!
It’s been a long time, I know.
First of, I need to thank all the people who have contacted me on Facebook, Twitter or this website and expressed their love and gratitude for LIFTED. For the longest time I thought making that movie was a mistake. Your letters have shown me it wasn’t. Thank you for that. I am especially touched by the many notes from those of you who have served, or are currently serving in the Military. You are my heroes and your approval honors me deeply.
Many of you have asked me why this movie wasn’t in the theaters. I will post that story sometime soon.
Today I want to announce something very current. The amazingly talented comedian, my friend Patton Oswalt had asked me to join him for a podcast called HOW DID THIS GET MADE, to talk about PUNISHER WARZONE before it will screen at his annual “Deeper in the Darkness” film festival at the New Beverly Theater. The folks from the podcast were super nice and although I still hate talking about PWZ, I did enjoy myself this time. You can listen to the podcast here: http://www.earwolf.com/episode/punisher-war-zone/
If you are anywhere near LA, PWZ is screening tomorrow, October 4, 2011, at 9.30 PM and there’ll be a Q&A with Patton, DP Steve Gainer and myself after. Not sure if there are any tickets left, but here’s the info:
Peace out,
Lexi

read your article on Big Hollywood and wanted to say thank you. although i am predominatly right leaning in many of my political views, i agree with you in your post 100% and wish that more people thought like you. you are intelligent and articulate, something i think all people can learn from. now i am going to stop flattering you. good luck on your future works, and let me know if you ever figure out how a secretive person survives on social media.
Lexi,
Just to remind you, there are those of us who stand behind you and Ray and all the rest those who made PWZ happen, and stayed true to your vision of the original character and source material.
I loved the film. I saw it in the theater on the first day of its release, and bought the DVD the day it came out. I still watch it with utter glee and satisfaction. It’s dark, bloody, pulpy craziness, and it’s totally cathartic, and thoroughly gets out my pent up angst. Sick, I know, but don’t we all have our moments of madness? So, doll, keep it loaded, locked, cocked, and ready to rock!
PWZ was by far better than the 2004 version, (no offense to Thomas Jane, but the will be no other Punisher but Ray Stevenson in my mind) and well, there is no comparison in even mentioning the 1989 version, but there I go mentioning it anyway. You should proudly display a giant poster of Punisher War Zone in your office. Fuck the haters. Fuck the critics. Fuck the Lion’s Gate suits. Listen to those of us who loved what you did, and forget the rest. You and Ray did the comic legend and the true fans proud. Don’t ever forget that. We won’t.
Not only that, the movie was just plain beautifully crafted. Each frame was a painting. A tasty picture full to the brim with hard punching, action-packed pathos and rip-roaring revenge, served with an huge heaping helping of hardcore horror. Mmm-Mmm! Zesty! Just like Mama Lexi used to make, and hopefully someday will make again.
It WILL be a cult classic. You’ll see. It’ll have legs. Believe it!
Loved it, and always will!
As to your new project…
I truly hope Lifted has a great showing for you. You deserve more success. Excelsior and etceteras!
When I see it advertised in my area, I will be sure to catch your flick, girl.
Now, I may be an elitist asshole, but I’m not a liberal by any stretch. I’m a gun-slingin’ good ol’ boy from the Mountain West. I’m a conservative Constitutionalist. I’ll back you on 1st Amendment issues, legalization of marijuana, and immigration reform, but things like abortion and gay marriage, I believe are State’s Rights issues, unless the entire country votes on them in an Amendment to the Constitution. They should not be legislated from the bench through the courts. Anyway, blah-bitty-blah-blah…Ignore me and my soapbox.
Regardless, a good heart, tenacious integrity, and a creative soul are always spot on in my book, baby, and you’ve got all that and a bag of $100.000 poker chips in spades!
Dig it!
You’re a solid sista’, darlin’.
Peace and Love From Utah,
Jimmy Out!
Just went to a screening of “Lifted” in Birmingham, Lexi, and have to tell you I really, really enjoyed it. I was mostly just curious because it’s part of Sidewalk Film Festival and anything the Hunter Brothers are connected with has to be well-done. Plus, my daughter Allyn is in it (part of the Rehab group). But all that aside, if I had stumbled across this movie on Netflix and not known anything about it, I would have kept it in my queue and watched it multiple times. Seems like I’ve seen too many ‘dark’ movies lately. This one is uplifting, dramatic, funny, and ‘real’. Yeah, people say it’s one of those ‘feel good’ movies. Like there’s something wrong with that?? What the heck is wrong with people these days? Too jaded I guess. Anyway, thanks for a very enjoyable movie. Hope to see more of your work.
make a green street 3 please
G’evening Lexi:
I’m an MSW student at CSU-Sacramento (CA.) and one of the assignments was to review a movie with addiction in it. I initially was going to write about/review “The Fighter” as I had seen it before and loved it. However, I wanted to watch a movie that was different, so I stumbled across this Independent film “Lifted”. I am so happy I did and grateful it was produced. I also liked the patriotism in it and the socio-economic status reflections viewed in a rural town. I’m from the Midwest so I related in that aspect. I was surprised by the grandfather’s behavior in a sense, but was able to understand the racism of some people at that time, as well as the moods of a person with alcoholism challenges. I actually had to research whether mom (Lisa) had a crack cocaine or methamphetamine problem, as many of the drug reactions/symptoms are similar…to find it was crack. I think this movie, and all the actors involved deserve a huge round of applause for taking part in a REAL, genuine, unconditional love and person-centered type of movie. Sure, it’s not gory nor another one of those “teen movies where I know what you did last summer road trip” kind of movies…we have enough of those already…time for new material, family and community awareness! Thanks.
Ms. Alexander,
I just finished watching “Lifted” for the first time and I should have know by the name alone that I wouldnt be able to turn off the water works.I am an actress in LA and first off have to give your cast a huge round of applause… I simply loved it,it turned out to be something entirely diffrent then what I expected… I think it hit close to home for many and was a very touching story…speacially in the end when we find out his father is no longer with him,but it was still comforting to think he was watching after him…and there bond was what gave him the ability to be the only one that could see his father…. and the way it ended was so inspiring, it made me feel like those I have lost are still watching over me as well,it was like poetry….I noticed that you were also one of the writers and the story itself drew me in, I hope to see more of your work come alive…
thank you,
Krystal
Lexi
I just got finished watching Lifted on Netflix for the 2nd time. It’s a fantastic film that delivers a powerful message. It is by far one of my all time favorites and my friends are really liking at too. Keep up the good work!
Mark
I am a United States Marine and would just like to say well done on this film. It gives people who are not in the military and have no affiliation with the military whatsoever a good view of the hurt and the pain that families endure by the loss of a fallen hero. The end of the movie was the best in my eyes. It lets you know that although they may be gone physically, doesn’t mean that they are not still with us spiritually. An awesome story with awesome actors. Mrs. Alexander, thank you on behalf of myself and I think I can speak for military families across the world.
Lexi…watch, listen, it’s happening now.
Get with Jon Barton Write the script…make the movie.
There is not much time remaining.
Lifted was Great everything you have done is filled with Excellence.
Keep it up.
Lexi,
I was just coaxed by my wife and son to watch “Lifted”. I am so glad I did. I’m not a cyring man, I’m actually more like an alpa male, but your movie had a delayed impact on my heart.
When I was seven years old, I lost both my parents in an auto accident. After watching Lifted, all I could think about was all the kids that have lost a parent and how your movie might encourage them to live on without their physical presence. I thank you so much for making this movie. I understand the patriotic intent of the movie and applaud you for it, but you should know that as a 38yr old father and husband, it caused me to think about how big of a heart you must have and I deeply appreciate you for opening it up for us. I pray that you do it again. I’m a fan. God Bless!
Chris
I was wondering if there is a sound track to the “Lifted” movie? I would like to get one if so…..
I just watched Lifted, I am happy to say this is one of the most enjoyable movies I’ve seen in a while. The movie was good from start to finish. Really makes you realize that a story like this doesn’t have to have anymore than what you did. Simple and real, you did a great job. Thanks for the job you did.
my god! i just heard you on the ‘how did this get made’ podcast.
i love your attitude. you are my hero.
i am renting everything you’ve ever done.
Dear Ms. Alexander,
Happen to run across your movie “Lifted” today on netflix. It was great! Loved the message and loved the music.
Please make more inspiring movies like this. Would love to buy a sound track if it ever becomes available….
Sincerely,
Darla
Hi lexi
I just listened to the pwz podcast with Patton oswalt and had to straightaway track down a way to tell you : please don’t be embarrassed or pained about the film! I’m a big fan of the old school over-the-top movies and I rank pwz as one of the best. It’s gleeful and god damn it satisfying, like robocop, total recall, roadhouse et al. I saw it on DVD and thought ‘how did this slip under the radar? Why isn’t this praised as an awesome comic book movie?’ As Patton says it looks like it’ll thankfully become a cult classic. I hope so. I hate the thought you might have been turned off genre film-making and also that you’re not the studios’ go-to director for big action fare. I think you knocked your Hollywood audition out the park. Curse the marketing klutzes I guess.
Hello,
Would you know if there will be a Green Street 3?
There has been a lot of talk about a third movie called “Green Street 3: Return Of The Major”.
I was just wondering, because you directed the first and second movie that you might know if there will be a third?
Thank you for your time,
-R
