LIFTED ~ A LEXI ALEXANDER FILM ~ 6/22/09
Hey everybody… I know it’s been a while.
It made me laugh to read that some people thought I quit directing because I shut my blog down.
No way! I’m just one of those people who needs something real to talk about before I blog or tweet. Let’s just say you’re never going to hear me post something like: “Enjoying the sun in Cali.”
I’m happy to announce that I am working on the most exciting and rewarding project ever. It is a thousand times better than anything I’ve ever worked on and although it is truly hard work, my team and I are having the best time.
We’re doing this totally off the Hollywood grid and guerilla style. I also wanted to repeat the genesis ofJOHNNY FLYNTON, so we are going back to Alabama to shoot.
I will reveal more about LIFTED as we go. Right now I only want to introduce the first two cast members I have attached.
The always brilliant DASH MIHOK as STAFF SERGEANT WILLIAM MATTHEWS.
And SCOTT MESCUDI aka KID CUDI as his best friend SERGEANT JEREMY WALT.
Anybody who knows me has heard me say that I think Dash Mihok is one of the best actors of his generation and, as always, I am honored to work with him again.
As for Kid Cudi, if you didn’t already know his name, you have definitely heard his music – his song “Day N’ Nite” is in heavy rotation on every radio station worth listening to.
Cudi was signed to G.O.O.D. MUSIC by Kanye West and he is blowing up big time right now as a hip hop artist. He’s done some acting work, but LIFTED will be his first feature film. It’s a challenging part, but I know he will smash it.
When Dash first suggested him for the role, I read and watched everything on the internet I could find about him. This Kid just oozes honesty and authenticity. You probably didn’t hear it here first, but I’m going to say it anyway; “He’ll kick ass in Hollywood just like he does in the world of hip hop.”
On top of it all, he is a really good and humble guy, so needless to say, Dash, myself and the entire LIFTEDteam are super excited to have him aboard.
We are currently casting for our lead character HENRY MATTHEWS, the thirteen-year-old blue eyed soul! Stay tuned for the announcement here!
