New movie LIFTED, some PWZ chat and how I came to have right-wing friends ~ 02/24/10

I know I’m a bad blogger. I get reminded of it several times a week when somebody sends me an email or facebook/twitter message to tell me so. I’m also a bad tweeter, face booker, etc. Let’s just say I generally suck at social media and staying in touch with people I don’t know, but who know me. I just don’t know what to write and I always feel a little self-important when I post or blog anything. Why would anybody be interested in anything I do or say? Then I get reminded that I did actually make a couple of movies people saw. Like the other day when I met a bunch of soldiers during our outreach to Military organizations for my new movie LIFTED.

It always surprises me how much paraphernalia I have to sign for a movie that nobody saw in the theater. Those soldiers couldn’t stop talking about PUNISHER WARZONE as I signed posters and comic books and things I don’t even know what to call with Punisher skulls on them, and as much as I want to forget the movie ever happened, these guys are veterans so I wasn’t going to spoil their excitement. Maybe one day I will be at peace with the whole PWZ experience and actually put up the poster in my office as well.

An industry friend who does the social media thing really well and who has thousands of followers told me that the whole blogging and tweeting thing only works if I share some real stuff from my life. Ah! That’s where the problem lies then, because I’m way too private to share any kind of personal drama. Growing up in Europe you’re definitely taught not to air your dirty or even clean laundry in public. In an effort to make this blog a little more interesting, I’m adding a new feature to the blog: Favorite Current Thing or Person andLeast Favorite Thing or Person. (I can hear you yawn. Stop it!! It might just be somewhat controversial.)

Okay, LIFTED. Turned out great. Finally done. First official screening next week. We have tons of amazing organizations officially endorsing us like the National Veterans Foundation, Ride 2 Recovery, Stars and Stripes Foundation and many more. We even have a bunch of churches endorsing us. Yes, drum roll please… homegirl made an accidental faith based movie. Unless you don’t believe in accidents…

Which brings me to my new right-wing friends. Here is the thing: Everybody who knows me knows that I’m a liberal at heart. I’m pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro health reform and all of that stuff, but I am also very much pro troops. There is a lot I want to reveal about what I’ve learned these past few weeks, but for now let me just say: I prefer most right wingers a lot more than some of those “pseudo-liberal-elitist-snobs” that run around on the west coast. If you don’t have good things to say about the brave men and women or in most cases boys and girls who without hesitation go to a war that somebody else has decided to start… then you’re no friend of mine.

Having said that (and cryptically left all the juicy details out for a later reveal), here is a review of LIFTED that was posted on BIG HOLLYWOOD: http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/jwordin/2010/02/15/review-lifted-the-anti-war-movie-for-everyone/#more-307922

Lastly as promised:

Favorite Current Person/Thing: Kevin Smith. Good for you mate! Brave and wonderful example to your daughter.

Least Favorite Current Thing/Person: The Bachelor (I only saw news snippets, so don’t you dare add me to the Nielsen count.) I know these girls’ collective IQ is no higher than room temperature… but really? Catfights over a guy who looks like he’d put you to sleep with every conversation he attempts? Shame on you, shame on you, shame on you.

Peace out,
Lexi
